Are you ready to make the switch to Digital Television?

As you probably already know, on February 17, 2009 most television stations will make the switch to a digital signal. If you have an older television that does not have a digital tuner, the government will give you up to 2 $40 coupons towards the purchase of a digital to analog converter.

These converters have been a hard find, but with the 17% SCRIP rate for Land's End it makes sense for you to make the purchase of the converter at either Kmart or Sears by using Land's End SCRIP. As I wrote earlier, Land's End gift cards can be used at Kmart and Sears. These converters can be purchased at Kmart for $49.99, if they have them.

After having set up two of these converters, a UHF antenna will be needed for a strong digital signal. I was able to find a good, inexpensive VHF/UHF antenna at CVS for $9.99. To see what type of antenna you will need you can go to AntennaWeb.org. I would suggest trying the CVS antenna, which you can purchase at any of the CVS stores in the area, before trying one of the much more expensive amplified ones.

Here is the monetary breakdown:

1 Digital Converter $53.49 ($49.99+7% tax)
1 UHF Antenna $10.69 ($9.99+7% tax)
$40 Coupon -$40

Total outlay: $24.17

If you use a Land's End SCRIP Gift Card at 17%, you will receive a SCRIP Credit of $2.50 ($2.29 from Land's End @17% for Converter and $0.21 from CVS @ 2%).

This avenue seems to be the best that I have found, though I have not done the research to purchase the converter box online. If you know of a better way to make this switch, please let me know.

Land's End Gift Cards OPPORTUNITY

I read in St. Monica's SCRIP Tips that Land's End has increased their percentage to 17% until the end of the year. Most people do not know that Land's End gift cards can be used at Sears and Kmart, as well. Rather than purchasing Sears or Kmart cards, get a Land's End card and earn more!

Another tactic that I have used in the past has been to purchase other Gift Cards at Kmart with a Kmart, Sears or Land's End gift card. You can really boost your SCRIP profits this way. Among others they sell Chili's, Cold Stone Creamery, Regal Cinema, AMC Theatres and Marriott gift cards.

I will attempt to get a full list of the gift cards sold at Kmart soon and will post it here. I will also post about another great way to turn Land's End, Sears and Kmart gift cards into a gift card that you can use most anywhere.

What is SCRIP?

SCRIP is a fundraising method whereby schools, churches, etc. purchase gift cards at a discounted price and sell these gift cards at face value to school families, church members, extended families, etc. It is another avenue for fundraising that allows people to get items that they really want rather than having to purchase popcorn, candles, candy bars and a plethora of other items.
